VIETNAM & BEYOND, Veteran Reflections by Jenny Lasala and Jim Markson After publishing my 101st Airborne fathers WWII letters in the book COMES A Soldiers Whisper Jim Markson, a Vietnam Veteran, and my ex-husband began collaborating together to publish his letters written home while deployed in Vietnam March 1967 to March 1968. Jim and I were married in 1972 and divorced in 1987. I never knew that his mother had kept all of his letters until last summer. Having lost her brother in WWII, Ann Markson valued the letters sent home. Jim revealed this after reading my fathers letters and said that he related to my fathers sentiments expressed 70 years ago. Jim revisited every letter that he wrote home from Vietnam and added his reflections of today. They are powerful and served to help Jim and I understand what in part led to the end of our marriage. Many Nam vets go on through their lives quietly keeping that time of their lives to themselves and unable to share. We hope to change that with not only our Vietnam Veterans but all veterans of war and their families. If you have read my earlier postings, war changes the soldier, it changes the family too. Jim and I are proud to include many other Vietnam Veterans stories as well as embracing stories of veterans of all wars in the book, VIETNAM & BEYOND, coming in October.
