VIETNAM SET TARGET OF 8.5 MILLION FOREIGN TOURISTS IN 2015 Vietnam has set a goal to welcome up to 8.5 million foreign tourists (up from 7.9 million in 2014) and 41 million domestic tourists with total revenue expected to reach 270 trillion Vietnamese dong ($12.7 billion) in 2015, according to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism. To attract more foreign holiday-makers to Vietnam, the government recently decided to grant visa-free access to citizens from Denmark, Finland, Japan, South Korea, Norway, Russia and Sweden to stay in Vietnam for a maximum of 15 days. The policy is valid within five years from January 1, 2015 to December 31, 2019. Vietnam will also begin issuing five-year visas and resident cards to foreign investors starting from January 2015. In the past, foreign investors could only obtain one year visas and residency cards that lasted three years.The procedures for issuing temporary residency cards have reportedly been simplified. Foreigners visiting economic zones along the border and special administration and economic zones will no longer require a visa. People from countries that enjoy a unilateral visa exemption can visit Vietnam an unlimited number of times. However, they can only visit the country at least 30 days after their the preceding visit.
