VINTAGE TRUCK, MACHINERY & HEAVY HORSE SHOW Theres a lot of history hidden in sheds around the region & New Englands Vintage Truck, Machinery & Heavy Horse Show organiser Steven King is keen to see this rusty gold unearthed. Im hoping that local farmers might bring their old girls in for the public to see, Mr King said. While a lot of the exhibits will be polished with pride, trucks in their working clothes are also very popular with the public. He can even help people by providing advice about the RMS historic conditional registration scheme for vehicles aged 30 years or older. The event, staged by the New England Antique Machinery Club and Armidale Draught Horse Group, will be held undercover at the Armidale Exhibition Centre on November 8 and 9. Its designed to celebrate and relive the history of commercial traffic over the New England Highway, so vintage trucks are invited to participate in the weekend event. Mr King said exhibitors from as far afield as Brisbane, Sydney and the west of the state had already registered for the event, themed Climbing the New England. The AEC Mammoth Major in our photo was maintained by the same mechanic from the day he opened the crate in 1950 until both the truck and mechanic retired in 1990. With full air brakes in 1950 you were king of the road, but doing Newcastle to Brisbane over the New England Highway at 30 miles per hour top speed was a hard slog, Mr King said.
