VIP! ABSOLUTELY MUST READ ARTICLE!! (more at itsaraj.us) Tim Tebow embraced by New England Patriots Sports News Flash: Tim Tebow embraced by New England Patriots. In my last commentary on the ongoing Tebow drama I de facto predicted that even after being dismissed by the NY Jets in the most inglorious of fashions, the saga was probably not over, and that it was entirely feasible that an opportunity would surface. But not even the likes of a creative story teller like Steven Spielberg could script a drama of this many fits and starts, twists and turns and story lines. Tim’s fellow Christian faithful see God at work here, but sports enthusiasts credit one of his first supporters –Josh McDaniels- the ex-head coach who drafted Him in the first round for the Denver Broncos but now is the offensive coordinator for the New England Patriots. To recount: there in the mile high city of ‘God’s country’, the two John’s (GM Elway and HC Fox) were happy to part with our young hero despite, in just his second year in the NFL, being called upon to take over at the helm of a struggling 1-and-4 Bronco’s team trying to find itself. But TT already knew himself –his mother was talked out of aborting him by her church group, who then provided the religious/fundamentalist context for his rearing into a fine and upstanding young man who adopted Christian puritanical celibacy, and proceeded to have a stellar pre-professional tenure via a high school state championship and then two collegiate national championships with the Florida Gators. He himself had won the coveted Heisman Trophy. Nonetheless the two John’s did not have the faith, and deported him into the veritable lion’s den of NY City and its football Jets. There a Neanderthal-like dinosaur of a head coach –Rex- summarily dismissed his input and its possibility, and our young hero –yearning to breathe free, prove himself and glorify God- was left to stew amidst overall ineptitude (exemplified by the now iconic ‘Butt-fumble’ by none other than his nemesis the starting quarterback). I have repeatedly made the case to the rest of the populace to consider the Christian mythos of human-weakness-of-the-world-as-glorified-in-spirit to understand just how archetypally his come-from-behind-to-win pattern in football was also seen as exemplified in the very near sacrifice that was made of him as far back as his mother’s mistaken selfish intent even before birth. And yet after what could be construed as exemplary play and conduct by him, enthusiastically encouraging his Denver team mates likewise, he is shipped out because unworthy and too unorthodox. In New England, I doubt the monkish coach there initiated this endeavor. It’s rumored that the owner, a Christian apparently, wanted to give TT a chance. That was probably welcome news to McDaniels, who first recognized Tebow’s charisma and overall football talent and drafted him out of college to the pros, and is himself a bit of a risk-taker and gamey. In any event, the general consensus by commentators and football insiders is that TT is on the gradual track to who knows what application and outcome on the team. But Tim’s faithful followers already foresee something unusual and unlikely occurring, thrusting God’s chosen one into the limelight … all for His glorification, ultimately. We’ll see. The story lines between the Bronco’s and Patriots are many. Despite the good fortune that befell the Ray Lewis led Ravens in taking out the Bronco’s and Patriot’s both en route to their Super Bowl Championship, the Bronco’s and Pat’s are the two best teams in the Division and should be vying for the right to go to the Super Bowl again this year. And Tebow was quarterback for Denver when he lost to Tom Brady after that spectacular over time win in the playoffs, ending the run in that storied year. And trying to stack the deck, Denver grabs Brady’s favorite pass target Wes Welker, now a Bronco. One gets a sense that New England is attempting to pull a rabbit out of its hat with the TT acquisition, given that it has apparently already lost its star back Gronkowski for the season, another of the several positions that Tebow has flirted with playing as of late. And last but not least, Tom Terrific is no longer the standout glamour poster boy for male testosterone with another TT in town. No doubt the many Boston beauties will be pouring on the glamour in the faint hope of getting lucky;)
