VIPERS AND VICTORIA UNIVERSITY’S SELFISHNESS MUST BE PUNISHED BY EXPULSION. ===================================================== The Uganda premier league, the highest footballing league in Uganda is currently locked in a stalemate due to two teams, out of 16 politically refusing to sign the deed of adherence, to allow sponsorship money flow to the lesser clubs and give them a small chance to compete. Vipers that has taken the lead in the resistance, by taking onto the airwaves to challenge anyone with which statute they can be punished with, since they have not done anything sporting/unsporting that warrants punishment Truth be told, by the time statutes were made, no one had the fore sight that money for sponsorship would ever come to the game. Historically clubs had nothing to sell apart from tickets and to a little extent merchandise- shirts. This modern trend of sponsoring the league was never anticipated later alone prepared for the likes of the teams like vipers refusing to sign due to their own selfish reasons. Many fans upto now are wondering why two clubs can ,at the expense of other clubs, suffocate an already malnourished league of the much needed money. It’s like denying an anaemic patient the chance of a blood transfusion with a ready donor willing to give blood to a dying patient. Its pathetic, shellfish, lack of class and insight from these two clubs to say the least. People who were looking for reasons why Uganda does not qualify for AFCON should not look far beyond these two clubs, its where the rot starts and probably were it should end. There is not a time when all clubs will agree, most, of them have reasons why they should not sign , and their reasons are probably stronger than vipers and victoria, but decided to leave their individual reasons for the benefit of the game. Now we say, you are either with us or against us, we form a coalition of the willing and move forward. And who should save us from this drama? FUFA. I took time to read through the statutes and when I was about to give up found the solution to the cancer. Article 83 Unforeseen contingencies and force majeure. States: the executive committee shall have the final decision on any matters not provided for in the statutes or in cases of force majeure. Force majeure is a term derived from French meaning ‘greater force” this means an event that cannot be reasonably anticipated before going into contract with another party. FUFA in all fairness could not foresee/ anticipate that some persons could politically antagonize sponsorship at the expense of 14 other clubs just because they are well funded by individuals. For sustainability, competition and football development, FUFA should give us an early Christmas present by activating article 83, firing the errant clubs and ‘we sing joy to the world in a spirit of Christmas. Strong decisions need strong answers but also strong leaders to take them. Long Live Moses Magogo, Long Live Lawrence Mulindwa,Long Live FUFA
