VISITA POR BUENOS AIRES -ARGENTINA- Buenos Aires a City For all Seasons Buenos Aires, always known as the Paris of the South has seen a resurgence of renewed interest from travellers and with good reason. The city deserves more than a passing glance on a whirlwind South American tour, and seven days in the capital wasnt nearly enough time to see this vast and varied city and experience all it has to offer. The Argentine Capital is known for its rich cultural and political history, beautiful European architecture, its world class wines and high quality local produce, namely beef, not to mention a long-standing love affair with Dulce de Leche, (a sweet milk caramel which is a local culinary delight). The city is a vibrant, cosmopolitan clash of cultures and cuisines, local people (Porteños) have a passion for life and food and are among some of the warmest people in the world, more than happy to share their city with visitors...... After a day of shopping, refuge comes at the Alvear Palace Hotel, a historic Buenos Aires palace known as one of the finest hotels in the city. I’m here for afternoon tea, which I have been told is something you must do for one of the finest high teas outside of Paris. The Alvear Palace is located in the Recoleta and has recently become listed as a historic landmark of the city of Buenos Aires. It opened in 1932 at the height of the Belle Époque era conceived as a luxury hotel for European visitors. The public areas and rooms of the hotel reflect the style of Louis XIV and Louis XVI and rich furnishings include crystal chandeliers and noteworthy original art pieces. High tea is served in the L’Orangerie, the room itself is a sight to behold with grand high ceilings, beautiful frescos and art that looks worthy of a museum wall. I am surprised to find the room almost full and bustling with the excitement of the occasion. There are elegantly clad women as well as business men with laptops dressed quite stunningly in three piece suits seated at equally elegantly laid tables. My Porteño friend and I are seated at a white linen covered table by the window and grand arm chairs with comfy cushion seats, Limoges tableware and polished silver cutlery. We choose tea from a menu, and we are told the Alvear Brew comes highly recommended. A lady in white gloves brings our tea in gleaming silver tea pots and brews it at the table, leaving momentarily so the flavours are fully immersed in the scalding water. When she returns a three tiered silver stand is placed in the centre of the table, our tea is served and we are told of the tiny goodies that sit in front of us as we enjoy our fragrant refreshing pot of tea. Finger sandwiches for two include parma ham, cucumber and turkey and are devoured quickly, mini bagels of smoked salmon, cream cheese and capers are very tasty as are the English scones served with marmalade, lemon curd and plum jam and tiny pastries to finish. The Alvear Afternoon Tea proves to be the perfect afternoon solace even if you’re not a guest of the Alvear Palace Hotel. The next day takes me to San Telmo, one of the oldest districts in Buenos Aires. Famous for its street markets and antique alleys,while tango dancers demonstrate street side the intricate dance that people come to Buenos Aires to see. Here youll find leather goods, antiques, paintings, fruits and vegetables, souvenirs, crafts, traditional Argentine goods, and much more. Original cobblestones pave the streets and here locals and tourists mix as they search for bargains and enjoy the atmosphere of street performers and the constant buzz of people winding their way in and out of narrow streets. In the afternoon I head to the beautiful Galerias Pacifico on Calle Florida. The Galerias Pacifico shopping centre has a beautiful dome painted by famous argentine painters, which is quite spectacular. It is also a very comprehensive shopping centre and has most of the stores I want to visit. The smell of leather permeates through the shopping centre, and I follow my nose to a fabulous store which is true handbag heaven. Prüne captivates me with not only their large selection of quality handbags but very classy shoes and boots . Most shops in Galerias Pacifico are beautifully laid out with quality fittings and an extraordinary array of clothing to suit even the most discerning customer. I am particularly taken by men of all ages who are dressed so beautifully. Even young men in trendy clothes and the latest fashion seem to have a particular style and way about them. Older men stand out in contrast to other cities. They are immaculately groomed, not a hair out of place, they invariable smell of cologne and have an air of quiet and unobtrusive sophistication. They either have some of the best suit/shirt/tie makers in this City or they are absolutely skilled at making themselves look as they have just stepped out of Vogue. Perhaps its a little of both. Buenos Aires una ciudad para todas las estaciones Buenos Aires, siempre conocida como la París del Sur ha visto un resurgimiento de un renovado interés por parte de los viajeros y con buena razón. La ciudad merece más que una mirada al pasar en una gira por América del Sur torbellino, y siete días en la capital no había tiempo suficiente para ver esta vasta y variada de la ciudad y experimentar todo lo que tiene para ofrecer. La capital argentina es conocida por su rica historia cultural y política, hermosa arquitectura europea, sus vinos de clase mundial y productos locales de alta calidad, es decir, carne de res, por no hablar de una larga historia de amor con dulce de leche, (un caramelo de dulce de leche que es una delicia culinaria local). La ciudad es un vibrante choque y cosmopolita de culturas y cocinas, la población local (Porteños) tienen una pasión por la vida y la comida y se encuentran entre algunas de las personas más cálidos del mundo, más que feliz de compartir su ciudad con los visitantes .... .. Después de un día de compras, refugio viene en el Alvear Palace Hotel, un palacio histórico de Buenos Aires conocido como uno de los mejores hoteles de la ciudad. Estoy aquí para el té de la tarde, lo que me han dicho es algo que debe hacer para uno de los mejores tés de alta fuera de París. El Alvear Palace Hotel se encuentra en la Recoleta y recientemente se ha convertido en la lista como un hito histórico de la ciudad de Buenos Aires. Abrió sus puertas en 1932 en el apogeo de la Belle Époque concebido como un hotel de lujo para los visitantes europeos. Las zonas comunes y habitaciones del hotel reflejan el estilo de Luis XIV y Luis XVI y mobiliario de calidad incluyen lámparas de cristal y notables piezas de arte originales. Alto té se sirve en el LOrangerie, la habitación en sí es un espectáculo para la vista, con techos altos, grandes hermosos frescos y el arte que se parece digno de una pared del museo. Estoy sorprendido de encontrar la sala casi llena y bulliciosa con la emoción de la ocasión. Hay elegantemente vestidos de las mujeres como a los hombres de negocios con ordenadores portátiles vestidos bastante impresionante en tres juegos de una pieza en mesas igualmente elegante establecidos. Mi amigo Porteño y yo estamos sentados en una mesa de lino blanco cubierto por la ventana y grandes sillones con cojines cómodos asientos, Limoges vajilla y los cubiertos de plata pulida. Elegimos el té de un menú, y nos dice el Alvear Brew es muy recomendable. Una señora en guantes blancos trae nuestro té en reluciente teteras de plata y cervezas en la mesa, dejando momentáneamente para que los sabores están completamente sumergidos en el agua hirviendo. Cuando regresa un stand de plata de tres niveles se coloca en el centro de la mesa, el té se sirve y se nos informa de las pequeñas golosinas que se sientan delante de nosotros como nosotros disfrutamos nuestra fragante olla de té refrescante. Sándwiches de dedo para dos incluyen jamón de parma, pepino y pavo y son devorados rápidamente, los mini rosquillas de salmón ahumado, queso crema y alcaparras son muy sabrosos como son los bollos ingleses servido con mermelada, crema de limón y mermelada de ciruela y pequeños pasteles para terminar. El Alvear té de la tarde resulta ser el consuelo tarde perfecta, incluso si no eres un huésped del Alvear Palace Hotel. Al día siguiente me lleva a San Telmo, uno de los barrios más antiguos de Buenos Aires. Famosa por sus mercadillos y callejones antiguos, mientras que los bailarines de tango demuestran lado de la calle de la intrincada danza que la gente viene a Buenos Aires para ver. Aquí encontrará artículos de cuero, antigüedades, pinturas, frutas y verduras, souvenirs, artesanías, productos tradicionales argentinos, y mucho más. Adoquines originales pavimentan las calles y aquí los lugareños y turistas se mezclan en su búsqueda de gangas y disfrutar del ambiente de los artistas callejeros y el zumbido constante de personas sinuosas su camino dentro y fuera de las calles estrechas. Por la tarde me dirijo a la hermosa Galerías Pacífico, en la calle Florida. El centro comercial Galerías Pacífico tiene una hermosa cúpula pintada por los pintores argentinos famosos, que es bastante espectacular. También es un centro comercial muy completo y tiene la mayoría de las tiendas que quiero visitar. El olor del cuero penetra a través del centro comercial, y sigo mi nariz a una tienda fabulosa que es verdadero cielo bolso. Prüne me cautiva no sólo con su gran selección de bolsos de calidad, sino zapatos muy elegantes y botas. La mayoría de las tiendas en Galerías Pacífico están muy bien distribuida con accesorios de calidad y una extraordinaria variedad de ropa para satisfacer incluso al cliente más exigente. Estoy especialmente tomadas por los hombres de todas las edades que se visten tan bien. Incluso los hombres jóvenes en ropa de moda y la última moda parecen tener un estilo particular y forma sobre ellos. Los hombres mayores se destacan en contraste con otras ciudades. Ellos están impecablemente acicalado, no un pelo fuera de lugar, que olor invariable de la colonia y tienen un aire de sofisticación tranquila y discreta. Ellos tienen algunos de los mejores fabricantes de traje / camisa / corbata en esta Ciudad o son absolutamente capacitados para hacer ellos mismos se ven, ya que sólo han salido de la revista Vogue. Quizás es un poco de ambos.
