VISITORS TO LINLITHGOW PALACE TO MEET ONE OF ITS MOST FAMOUS PAST RESIDENTS on Sunday 31st August. Linlithgow Palace to come alive with the sights and sounds of ‘Renaissance Revelry’ Visitors to Linlithgow Palace will come face to face with one of its most famous past residents this week as ‘Renaissance Revelry’ comes to the palace. A costumed performer playing Mary, Queen of Scots will form the centrepiece of a reconstruction of the royal court as the palace comes alive with the sights and sounds of the renaissance court through a special event to be held at the palace on Sunday, 31st August. Visitors will be transported back in time at the ‘Renaissance Revelry’ event as the palace once again experiences court life through music, dance and drama. Throughout the day, presentations will be held covering different aspects of renaissance life. This will range from finding out about life in the palace kitchens to learning more about the past times of the nobility. Visitors will also have the opportunity to get involved in activities such as learning the dances of the period to taking part in renaissance games. The Linlithgow Players will also be performing an extract from Sir David Lyndsays drama, ‘A Satire of the Three Estates’, which was originally performed at the palace in the sixteenth century. Meanwhile, historical characters will meet visitors as they progress through the palace, who will explain the history of the palace and their role at court.
