VISITS TO MUSEUMS UP 4% (from 2012 to 2013) - VISIT ENGLAND The British Museums sees increase of 20%, reaching 6,701,036 visitors in 2013. In our region, Durham Cathedral is the only attraction on the top-21 not-paid-for attractions (yes, 21) with an estimated 712,000 visitors: thats your figure to beat this year. Meanwhile, no attractions in our region makes it on to the paid-for top-20, which is again headed by the Tower of London with 2,894,698 visitors (up 18%). Beamish Museum is, of course, in this latter category and in 2013 Beamish recorded 589,474 visitors (585,982 according to VisitEngland), also up 20%. That percentage is obviously a figure to look out for in your own statistics, if you are in the visitor attraction (as opposed specifically the museum) category. If tourists dont come to you in significant numbers, you would expect lower numbers, perhaps closer to the national average of 4% mentioned here.
