VITAMINS FOR THE MIND by Ron Reynolds #3637 (Thursday, September 11, 2014) Missing the Point A few days ago, I wrote a mental vitamin and the point I was making prompted someone to write to me with “How do I…?” I won’t go into what the question was about; after my full page comments on one of the things it takes to build a growing and rewarding AdvoCare business, the person obviously read the message, but had a challenge that cried out for an elaboration on “how” to implement what I had suggested. And there’s the word again that ‘ties up’ a lot of people who hear, who learn, and who really wants to make progress but just can’t seem to get any significant momentum going; and what’s that word? “How.” I can’t do Mixers very well, I can’t talk in front of people, I can’t get people to Success School, I can’t get people to take the products the way they should, I can’t get people to join, or if they do join they don’t do much. How can I do the things that everyone says needs to be done? What am I doing wrong? What’s wrong with me? Success in this business mostly has to do with ‘why’ and only to a much lesser degree with the ‘how’ to do whatever it is that you’re wrestling with. By that statement I mean that when your reasons for wanting to do well are strong, the ‘how’ reveals itself. Show me a person who sees AdvoCare as a solution to their issues in life, and who is infused with a passion about getting results that neutralize those issues, and I’ll show you someone who has a rendezvous with their destiny. We can see what a passionate purpose does for a child who decides they’re going to do something; more often than not, that boy or that girl will go over, under, around or through whatever it takes to convert their ‘mental picture’ into a new and better reality – into the achievement of what had begun as nothing more than a dream, that had begun as little more than a vision, and that – through taking action with the vision they saw, converted an idea into an achievement. ‘Something’ was made out of nothing; from imagination on to creativity, combined with focused and determined activity, and – Bam! – there it is, I did it in spite of others saying I couldn’t; that’s how young girls become cheer leaders or honor students and how young boys become star athletes or the president of their class. ‘Self-imposed limitations’ are for grownups, not for kids; the kids still have their imagination, their desires, their dreams, their self-confidence, their curiosity and their spirit of exploration intact; the grownups on the other hand have little more than hard-wired habits that confine them to a rather pitiful level of accomplishment. With enough strong and passionate reasons, people – including the grownups – can do the most unbelievable things. Is ‘how’ holding you back today?
