VITAMINS FOR THE MIND by Ron Reynolds #3680 (Tuesday, November 11, 2014) 318,000,000! I’ve not ever written a mental vitamin with a ‘number’ as the title; for the purpose of defining the subject I’m about to cover, I could also have written – 7,000,000,000. What’s the significance of both numbers? One is 318 million, the number of people living in the United States, and the 7 billion is the number of people on the entire planet. A few days ago, a Distributor said to me – “I must have talked to fifty people and no one was interested, and either I’m doing something wrong, or this business just isn’t something I’m cut out to do.” Now, he told me he has a lot of debt; he also told me he hates his job and that he’s disgusted trying to ‘make ends meet.’ He has that delicate mixture of desire and disgust, but I sensed a lack of determination and self-conviction – those human traits that can make all the difference in the world in determining how our lives turn out, and that we often refer to as a ‘passionate purpose.’ Without a new strength within ourselves, we leave ourselves open to the whimsical opinions of others, and to the circumstances that our past deeds and habits have brought into our lives. But let me get back to the 318 million people who call America their home; if you talk to fifty people and think about giving up because none of the fifty seem to have any interest, then are you not making ‘their’ complacency part of your belief system? After all, their rejection of your message made you surrender your beliefs in exchange for theirs. How silly is that? With that kind of inner-strength, or lack thereof, where would America be today if you had been the one to cast the deciding vote on whether or not to approve the Declaration of Independence in 1776? With 318 million Americans, surely you’re aware that well better than half are overweight, lacking in energy, broke the day before payday, or owned by their debt because they’re paying as high as one-third of their take home pay in the form of interest. Most working Americans don’t like their job, and they have no vision of a better future and no defining purpose that drives them to exert any real form of ambition that might lead to a better life. And the man tells me that he talked to fifty people out of three hundred and eighteen million and is about ready to quit because he didn’t capture the interest of anyone?! That, in itself, is strongly suggestive that we’re rapidly becoming a nation looking for instant gratification without any serious and sustained effort on our part. The real truth, however, is that there are millions of dissatisfied Americans who have reached their limits on accepting their current circumstances as being an accurate indicator of their value, and are just waiting for a chance to show what they can do. Let’s just hope that the guy who has talked to a mere fifty and is ready to give up on the business gets more serious and compassionate about how he shares his story and becomes more passionate about his purpose. Right now, he’s more weenie-like than leader-like - and, there are lots of other AdvoCare Distributors who would be willing to help him make some corrections.
