VITAMINS FOR THE MIND by Ron Reynolds #3715 (Wednesday, December 31, 2014) The Final Message I realize that yesterday’s mental vitamin focused on a Christmas speech by an American president, Dwight Eisenhower, but on this – the final day of this year – it seems appropriate that I listen to ‘the still, small voice’ that prompts me to share another message from an American president – this one from Ronald Reagan, delivered on December 31, 1974. It has come to be known as Reagan’s “City upon a Hill” speech; “You can call it mysticism if you want to, but I have always believed that there was some divine plan that placed this great continent between two oceans to be sought out by those who were possessed of an abiding love of freedom and a special kind of courage. This was true of those who pioneered the great wilderness in the beginning of this country, as it is also true of those later immigrants who were willing to leave the land of their birth and come to a land where even the language was unknown to them… “Standing on the tiny deck of the “Arabella” in 1630 off the Massachusetts coast, John Winthrop said – ‘We will be as a city upon a hill. The eyes of all people are upon us…” “We cannot escape our destiny, nor should we try to do so. The leadership of the free world was thrust upon us two centuries ago in that little hall of Philadelphia. In the days following World War II, when the economic strength and power of America was all that stood between peace and the return to the dark ages, Pope Pius XII said, ‘The American people have a great genius for splendid and unselfish actions. Into the hands of America, God has placed the destinies of an afflicted mankind. “We are indeed, and we are today, the last best hope of man on earth.” And now, as we find ourselves living the final hours of 2014, into our own hands has been placed the responsibility for improving and advancing not only our own lives, but the lives of many others as well. As a means for making that possible, we need look no further than the company of which we are all a part; it is a company that offers a unique opportunity possible for anyone willing to embrace that opportunity, and it is an opportunity made possible because of the quality and efficacy of the products it makes available. We the people of AdvoCare – like the ‘city on the hill’ described by Reagan, are a light atop that hill, pointing the way to debt freedom and financial independence for those seeking either or both. May your efforts touch a thousand lives as we move through 2015, and may our company and all of its people be inspired, blessed and protected as we seek to carry out the vision of our Founder twenty-one years ago. We are embarking upon a magnificent voyage together. Happy New Year, everybody! The views expressed on this post are those of Ron Reynolds and do not necessarily reflect the views of AdvoCare.
