VITAMINS FOR THE MIND by Ron Reynolds #3730 (Thursday, January 22, 2014) People Protecting Themselves We’ve come a long way in the area of protecting ourselves against the environment; we wear coats when it’s cold, we wear shoes to protect our feet and we apply sunscreen to protect our skin against the damaging rays of the sun. We also take various forms of medication to help us recover from an illness or to help prolong our lives, and – as any AdvoCare Distributor or customer will readily attest – we consume nutritional products to feed our bodies with life-enhancing ingredients that can help balance our body chemistry to bring about better performance, help with weight loss, and that help us look better and even feel better. There are so many other things that modern science has made possible that most people use every day; we apply cosmetics to make our appearance more appealing and radiant, we turn to cosmetic surgery to improve how we look, and we even have products to ‘whiten’ our teeth to give us a brighter smile. Just think of all the things we can turn to whose purpose is to help improve ourselves; but have you noticed how many of those things are designed for the improvement of the ‘outside’ of ourselves? Have you ever met someone who is stunningly attractive on the outside, but somewhat of a ‘ghoul’ on the inside? I wonder how we got to a place in which we spend so much money on our ‘outside selves’ while the ‘inside’ is going largely ignored? It’s a generally accepted fact that the act of reading about history, science, self-improvement, better behavior and inter-human relations can refine and improve our behavior and advance how we think (or whether we think) and the degree to which we use our creativity and imagination for the improvement of ourselves and of those around us; and yet, a rather small percentage of human beings bother to read such books. There can be no doubt that ‘getting around’ the kind of people who are optimistic, goal-oriented, cooperative, encouraging and who are good ‘models of better behavior’ and who can serve us as mentors, teachers and encouragers can help us become more conscious of our own effect on other people is a good place to be because of what all those things and people can do for us and do to us. But only a small number of us ever consider the fact that we are – to a very significant degree – much like the people with whom we associate and like the books that we read. So the question becomes “Why in the world do we spend so much time and money on the outside of ourselves and so little time and money on the inside? Surely, our character, our personality, our genuineness, our sincerity and the depth of our knowledge and experience counts for something, wouldn’t you think? Imagine what life could be like if we sent all of the war-mongers, the tyrants, the radicals and the terrorists to an extensive school of better behavior. But perhaps that would be like sending a duck to eagle school. I do know this; involvement in AdvoCare has done a lot more for improving people than just the monetary benefits. I would suggest you give it a try; it may massively improve the inside of the people who learn from how we are and what we do so that they become more aware of how they too can ‘become more’ so they might have more. Work on the inside as well as the outside! The views expressed on this post are those of Ron Reynolds and do not necessarily reflect the views of AdvoCare.
