VO The 8th Summit of Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam on the Development Triangle Area (CLV DTA) begins to review progress in Triangle Area INTRO: The 8th Summit of Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam on the Development Triangle Area (CLV DTA) begins to review progress in Triangle Area. According to the Lao Premiere, Thongsing Thammavong, the Triangle Area will continue to be developed on a basis of cooperation, with funds to be mobilised from development partners for use in implementing various projects and the master plan for socio-economic development in the region from 2010-2020. STORY: Laos hosts the 8th meeting of the grouping. The three countries meet to review their development successes in the Triangle Area and to discuss future cooperation. In his opening remark, Lao Prime Minister, Thongsing Thammavong stated that, the Triangle Area will continue to be developed on a basis of cooperation, with funds to be mobilised from development partners for use in implementing various projects and the master plan for socio-economic development in the region from 2010-2020. At the summit, the CLV leaders review the progress made in implementing the Economic Development Master Plan of the CLV DTA for 2010-2020. They will also evaluate difficulties faced in recent years and map out the future direction of the DTA, which spans 13 provinces – four in Cambodia, four in Laos and five in Vietnam. The summit considered ways to source funding from development partners to finance development projects and programmes outlined in the master plan At the close of the summit, the three prime ministers also signed a Joint Declaration The Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam Development Triangle Area was established in 1999 and initially involved seven provinces that shared borders in the triangle area between the three countries. The Triangle Area now covers 13 provinces and an area of 144,600 square kilometres, with a combined population of 6.7 million. The grouping holds summit meetings biennially, with each of the three countries taking it in turn to host the event.
