VO The Lao Young Designers Development Projects Fashion Design Contest 2014 kicks off INTRO: Following the success of Lao Fashion Week 2014, which took place in Vientiane from March 5-7, the Lao Fashion Week Committee announced the launch of Lao Young Designers Development Projects Fashion Design Contest 2014. Founder and CEO of Lao Fashion Week and the Lao Young Designer Development Fund, Pany Saignavong said, a new contest would be open to aspiring designers. STORY: The contest was announced at a press conference held at the Lao Society Company, with the committee saying the contest aims to promote young Lao designs and launch fresh new designers onto the scene, as well as promoting the Lao fashion industry. Pany Saignavong said the contest gives young Lao people the opportunity to participate in Lao Young Designers Development Projects Fashion Design Contest 2014 under the theme of ‘Modern Design with Lao Essence. She said, the winner of Fashion Design Contest 2014 will be awarded a scholarship to study at an acclaimed fashion academy in Paris. The event is being organised and chaired by Vice President of the Lao Journalists Association and Chairman of the Board of Lao Fashion Week and the Lao Young Designer Development Fund, Somsanouk Mixay, French Ambassador to Laos, Yves Carmona, Founder and CEO of Lao Fashion Week and the Lao Young Designer Development Fund, Pany Saignavong and Representative of the Campus France Laos, Myriam Abdenebi. Following the success of Lao Fashion Week 2014, which took place in Vientiane from March 5-7, the Lao Fashion Week Committee announced on Tuesday that a new contest would be open to aspiring designers. Speaking to our news team, Founder and CEO of Lao Fashion Week and the Lao Young Designer Development Fund, Pany Saignavong said, the contest gives young Lao people the opportunity to participate in Lao Young Designers Development Projects Fashion Design Contest 2014 under the theme of ‘Modern Design with Lao Essence She said, they will attend ESMOD School of Fashion in Paris, France in February 2015 for a period of six months where they will undertake an intensive course. The course will also include French and English language classes. The prize will also cover accommodation and travel expenses for the trip, as well as free entry to the Lao Fashion Week 2016 as the Lao Young Designer to showcase their new designs. Training and a work contract at a fashion house in Laos will also be awarded in the first year of graduating the course. The candidates must be a Lao citizen between 18-25 years old and they must also not be an established designer or have any prior career in the fashion industry. The competition is open to all genders. French Ambassador to Laos, Yves Carmona said he was proud to be a part of the human resource development of fashion design, especially in this case as it would be a good opportunity for young Lao people to learn fashion design at a world class school. He said not only would they learn the ins-and-outs of fashion, they would also be able to interact with foreign students and learn the management involved in depicting culture in a fashion show, as well as develop and create products to promote the Lao fashion industry. It is said that, this is a historical event in the Lao fashion and design industries and we are very proud of being able to achieve our goals in the first year of the Lao Fashion Week through developing young talented designers who will lead our industry in the future.”
