VO The National Assembly (NA) outlines its work plan for the next six months. INTRO: Oversight on law enforcement and other issues of public concern will be among the priorities of the National Assembly (NA) in its work plan for the next six months. STORY: NA members approved a resolution on the plan on Friday, the last day of the Eighth Ordinary Session of the Seventh Legislature. NA Vice President Dr Xaysomphone Phomvihane, who chaired the debate on the resolution, gave some guidance on the Assemblys work. He reminded members of the Assemblys normal agenda, which includes hearing a government report on the implementation of the socio-economic development plan and the state budget at its mid-year session in June or July. According to the plan, the oversight consideration will focus on revenue collection, state expenditure, ways to tackle government debt, and the use of natural resources. One outstanding achievement of the NA over the past six months was that ministries and government bodies had been instructed by the NA to respond to public queries and complaints. Officials from some ministries and government bodies had given responses through various channels a few days after the seventh session ended. Dr Xaysomphone asked NA members to check up on ministries and government bodies that had not responded, as well as those that had provided unsatisfactory explanations. The NAs work plan also includes canvassing public opinion on a draft amendment to the National Constitution, oversight on the implementation of government intensive development areas, and arrangements for the granting of permanent residence.
