VOICING CONCERNS Ive been battling a cold, but yesterday I felt as if I had the upper hand and had gotten through the bulk of the day without serious symptoms. Then, two minutes into the 5:00 p.m. newscast my voice surrendered, I limped/sputtered through the rest of the half hour, but then I had to retire to the newsroom and everyone had to scramble to come up with a replacement co-anchor for the 5:30. Now that Im forewarned Ive taken my name off the Evening Edition roster for tonight, thereby depriving southwestern Connecticut viewers of another meltdown. The talent and the newscast should never be the story.
