VOTE FOR A GOOD CANDIDATE OF ANY PARTY OF YOUR CHOICE (Seventh post in my endeavour to post inspiring stories about some little known candidates) AJAY KUMAR: JVM-P candidate from Jamshedpur (Jharkhand) In July 2011, there was a by-election for the Jamshedpur Lok Sabha seat vacated by BJPs Arjun Munda who had become CM of Jharkhand. The winner was a JVM-P candidate who not only defeated the BJP, JMM, Congress & AJSU, but also made all of them lose security deposits! That was Dr. Ajoy Kumar s debut into politics !! But Ajay Kumars tryst with Jamshedpur began two decades back, as a young SP posted in East Singhbhum. A qualified MBBS doctor from JIPMER, he had qualified for the civil services in 1986 choosing zoology & history. Failing to get the IFS, he opted for IPS and in his stint as a trainee police officer, he won the Presidents Police Medal for gallantry. He served as SP in Patna & Jamshedpur and was dubbed as the super cop who brought law and order to Jamshedpur. However, in the aftermath of a raid on a minister, he quit the IPS in 1996 and pursued business management at XLRI. He later joined the Tata Group and was a General Manager with Tata Sons. Later, he was CEO of Cummins Diesel, President-Operations at Apollo Hospitals and is currently CEO of Max Neeman- a contract medical research company. He obtained a post-grad in medical informatics from Apollo MedVarsity, Chennai. Today, he divides his time between Delhi & Jamshedpur doing duties as a parliamentarian, CEO and founder of NGOs in Jharkhand. Separately, Ajay Kumar has been a schoolmate of Satya Nadella at Hyderabad Public School and he is said to be the inspiration behind the film - Gangajal.
