VOTE FOR HON. OLALEKAN AFOLABI FCA Now that the dust of various party primaries has settled,we are now confronted with choosing our representatives at all levels. I focus on Ifelodun State constituency in this write-up. For the sake of new friends and general public in this forum, I want to disclose my bias and political affiliation. I am a card carrying member of PDP and a major stakeholder in my very humble capacity. My past postings are enough attestation to my views and position on some issues. I am a strong believer in representative democracy. I worked harder in support of my partys candidate during the last gubernatorial election in Osun but it was eventually won by Gov. Aregbesola. Since majority have spoken in a free and fair election, I am in total support of his government and I wish him very well. In Ifelodun state constituency, we are blessed to have too highly qualified candidates, contesting on the platform of the two major parties - PDP and APC. Prince Hon. Kayode Adeyemi Esq. for PDP and Hon. Afolabi Olalekan FCA, for APC. Either of them would make a great and informed representative and as they have done in the past, serve peoples interest. Unfortunately, we have to choose BEST one of them. The issue now is how do you select the best from equally good candidates. It is complex but possible. I have given the challenge a very deep thought and came up with criteria for evaluation and I developed a rubric for objectivity. I will later provide more details about the criteria and my analysis that formed the basis of my decision. I have decided to support Hon. Olalekan Afolabi, the candidate of APC to represent Ifelodun State constituency in the forthcoming election in Feb. 2015. I took Hon. Afolabi on during the last gubernatorial election and I took special interest in his responses. He endeared me to himself through his action and reaction. He demonstrated his interest in people and displayed great knowledge of his role and working of the government. I asked many questions about Gov. Aregbes policies and governance style on social media. It was only Hon. Afolabi that took his time to carefully answer my questions while others are busy abusing and defending blindly. All I demand as a citizen is explanation about issues and knowledge of government actions and rationale behind it. I need a representative that understand that the government is for the people and that they are working for us. I need a highly intelligent and informed representative who can present the view of his/her people, formulate policies that are beneficial to people and not serving personal agenda. I strongly believe Hon. Afolabi perfectly meet those criteria despite being in different party, I endorse him. I will vote for him. Hon. Adeyemi of PDP is an experienced lawmaker, a prince by birth and a lawyer by profession. He was a principal officer during his first term in the house. He has a good knowledge of local needs having served as secretary to Ifelodun Council. There could have been no better candidate but for his disconnect with us, his people that he was meant to represent. Infact, he narrowly won the PDP ticket after being initially rejected by the partys leadership. That speaks volume. He was considered too elitist and only serves the interest of the state governor. He might have just being a victim of the government he served but his initial rejection by his primary constituent in PDP proves otherwise. He was rated too low for his performance during his first tenure in the state house of assembly. Considering that opposition might still dominate the state house, Ifelodun will be disadvantaged by voting Adeyemi at this time. If democracy is about people and not family and personal affairs, I call upon good people of Ifelodun to vote across party line, focus on issues and how we can be well represented. Let us vote for Hon. Olalekan Afolabi.
