VSP Searching for Suspect in Greene County Fatal Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Crash The investigation continues this evening into a fatal hit-and-run of a pedestrian early Tuesday morning (Jan. 30) in Greene County. Virginia State Police troopers and special agents spent much of the day investigating the scene of the crash that took place in the northbound lanes of Route 29, approximately 2/10 of a mile north of Route 607…just outside Ruckersville. During the course of the investigation and thanks to the many calls and tips from the public during the day, state police have been able to determine that the white, male subject was walking southbound in the northbound lanes when he was struck. The initial vehicle that struck him, which is believed to be a passenger car, then fled the scene. The Greene County Sheriff’s Office received its first call concerning the body in the roadway at approximately 3:50 a.m. Tuesday. The incident remains under investigation as state police troopers and special agents continue their efforts to determine the circumstances surrounding the individual’s death. The remains were transported to the Office of the Medical Examiner in Richmond for autopsy, examination and to confirm identification. State police is asking anyone who might recall seeing a white, male pedestrian wearing a black sweatshirt and blue jeans in the area of the Route 29 truck stop near Ruckersville between the hours of 1 a.m. and 3:30 a.m. Tuesday to please call the Virginia State Police at 434-352-7128 or #77 on a cell phone. We’re also asking anyone who might have witnessed the hit-and-run or know of a passenger car with new damage to its front end, to please call state police, as well.
