VSP Seeks Publics Help with Possible Suspect Vehicle in Fatal 2014 Henry County Hit-and-Run The investigation continues by VSP e into the fatal hit-and-run that occurred Dec. 22, 2014, in Henry County. State police are hoping the public can assist with information on a possible suspect vehicle. During the course of the investigation, state police has identified a white International, 3-axle box truck with a silver car in tow as being in the area at the time Hubert L. Griffin, 66, of Bassett, Va., was struck and killed on his bicycle. Both the box truck and Griffin would have been traveling north on Route 220, with Griffin being struck from behind. The box truck, which did have a logo on the side, could have damage to its front passenger side. On Dec. 22, state police were notified shortly after 10 p.m. of a male subject lying in the roadway, who was later identified as Griffin. Griffin had been riding a metallic gray, 21-speed Mongoose bicycle when it was struck by a vehicle on Route 220/Virginia Avenue, just north of Bassett. He was thrown from the bike and struck as well. Griffin was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. His remains were transported to the Office of the Medical Examiner in Roanoke for examination and autopsy. Anyone with information about this crash or the suspect vehicle is asked to please call the Virginia State Police at 540-375-9500 or #77 on a cell phone. Griffin and his bicycle were struck at around 10 p.m. on Virginia Avenue near Towson Drive, in front of Kennetts Used Cars and The Pool House.
