VaShavi, it is that time of the year that our forefathers used to - TopicsExpress

VaShavi, it is that time of the year that our forefathers used to gather and think back, deep in the hidden pockets of history about their traditions. As we all know, when they came to Africa via Yemen and all other places they went through, many of the sacred times, rituals, and customs got influenced to change. Hence they remained with three important things as a mark of who they are, namely keshruit [dietary laws], appointed times [shabbat (one day of rest per week), new year (September-October time), day of self-denial (fasting time)], circumcision [of all males not women]. Now new year oscillates between the Gregorian calendar one in January and the two beginnings one in the Tanakh. This years Rosh HaShanah is on the 25 - 26 of September, 2014. Allow me to wish you all the joy of entering this new year and see the life in the following year. Leshanah tovah! May you all be blessed.
