Vacancy: Copy Editor Position available immediately Basic Salary Position based in Techno Park, Stellenbosch Natural Medicine is looking to fill the role of an experienced full-time, in-house copy editor. The successful candidate will have: • A relevant tertiary qualification in related field: Journalism, with specialisation in PR and copywriting. Experience in Journalism and copywriting essential • Three to five years of industry-related experience (copywriting, editing, proofreading, Social Media, PR, Journalism, Marketing) essential • Full MS Office literacy essential • Understanding of Social Media marketing and content creation (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, other) • Understanding of health media landscape, journalism ethics, and targeted content creation • Own transport and drivers license a must Job description includes: • Copy editing all features from text documents through to print-ready page layouts • Thorough fact checking of all copy • Ensuring grammar, style and tone are correct and that the copy is reader-friendly (easy to understand and a pleasure to read) • Avoiding repetition (tautology), inconsistencies and contradictions • Writing catchy headers, blurbs, captions and cover lines • Proofreading page layouts • Cutting copy to fit page layouts • Content generation/brainstorming feature ideas • Writing features and client copy for adverts and reviews • Liaising with the editor, design and sales departments • Liaising with clients, authors and publishers • Sourcing, writing book, CD and DVD reviews • Maintaining the high editorial standard of the magazine • Be proactive and self-disciplined with a strong sense of responsibility • Maintaining an accurate author database which includes contact details as well as bio notes, etc. Skills and attributes • Excellent writing and editing skills • Excellent time management and organisational skills • Ability to function well under pressure and meet tight deadlines • Versatility and adaptability • Willing to work overtime when needed, especially during deadline • Acute attention to detail Please email your CV, references and 2 examples of any articles / adverts you have created to: [email protected] using: COPY EDITOR and your name in the subject header.
