Vacature - Embedded researcher in History and GIS For the project Sailing Networks: Mapping Colonial Relations with Suriname’s Seventeenth century Sailing Letters, the early modern history section is looking for a researcher who will conduct historical research and develop new software for historical research, in cooperation with Geodan’s research department. Project description The embedded researcher will combine historical research with the development of innovative software, in cooperation with Geodan’s software engineers. Based on colonial correspondence, the project aims to develop an interactive program which maps the social relations between colonists in Suriname and their contacts in the Dutch Republic in the ‘Disaster Year’ 1672. The project intends both to develop original GIS software and to instigate a new method to analyze early modern colonial relations with data from the vast Sailing Letters collection.
