Valar Morghulis (Game Of Thrones) Dubbel Ale from Brewery Ommegang in Cooperstown, New York From the Ommegang website: Valar Morghulis -- Ommegang and HBO® announce the newest beer in the Game of Thrones® collaboration series. Through its first four seasons, the critically acclaimed drama has become the biggest show on HBO. In the world of Westeros, Valar Morghulis means “all men must die.” Fans of the hit HBO show chose the foreboding phrase as the name of the newest beer in the Game of Thrones® collaboration between HBO and Brewery Ommegang. As part of a Facebook poll, fan voting determined the style and name of the next beer. An Abbey Dubbel was selected and it is perfectly represented by the “two- headed” coin given to Arya Stark by Jaqen H’ghar, one of the “Faceless Men of Braavos” – legendary assassins with the ability to change their appearances at will. On sale October 1st, available in 750ml bottles and 1/6 barrel kegs. Valar Morghulis possesses a deep chestnut brown color with a persistent and creamy tan head. Rich aromas of caramel, toffee, ripe fruits and burnt sugar, with a hint of cloves. The taste is delicately balanced with rich malty sweetness, caramel and just enough bitterness to balance out its malty backbone. A surprisingly dry finish is light on the tongue, which belies the initial aroma. • Malt: Our carefully crafted mixture of specialty malts. • Sugar: Dark Candi • Hops: Apollo, Hallertau Spalt • Spices: None • ABV: 8.0% Another terrific brew from Ommegang and another terrific brew in this Game of Thrones collaboration series of beers. This one really nails the Belgian Trappist Dubbel Style. Ive tasted many brews from Ommegang, and all are top shelf, and this one maintains that standard of excellence. This beer is very highly carbonated, so pour carefully - a huge head of foam erupts in the glass. Luscious aromas of dark fruits and malts persuade you to drink ASAP! The cloudy and dark brown appearance in the glass suggests that an excellent taste experience is about to happen! As you taste, all your expectations are fulfilled - simply superb! Dark fruits, brown sugar, great roasted malts, and lively carbonation lead to a very full mouth feel with outstanding taste quality! Do not expect hops. Do expect a well done American brewed Belgian Dubbel. Compare this to a Chimay Dubbel, and I think you might prefer this guy - that is saying volumes! I highly recommend you find this and give it a try. Look for it at Whole Foods stores, or any high-end beer shop where you have seen Ommegang before. Available now, but it is a limited release! This one might develop a cult following quickly! I managed to grab my bottle in early October.
