Vale Doc Neeson Support Act is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Bernard ‘Doc’ Neeson earlier today, aged 67. An iconic Australian singer/songwriter and The Angels frontman, Doc had been battling a brain tumour for the past 17 months and will be truly missed. Doc Neeson shot to fame as lead singer with The Angels in the 1970s. They had a string of hits from the 1970s through to the 1990s, with some of the biggest including Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again? and No Secrets’. ABC’s Australian Story recently featured Doc’s career and his battle with cancer, in an episode entitled A Very Good Rascal’. For many, Doc was the quintessential frontman and an Australian music legend. In 1998 Doc was inducted into the Australian Recording Industry Association’s Hall of Fame. In 2008 Doc was inducted into the Australian Songwriters Hall of Fame and in 2009 named by The Irish Echo as one of Australia’s Top 100 Irishmen of all time. Doc was awarded the Order of Australian medal on Australia Day 2013 for services to music and the community. We wish to convey our heartfelt sympathies to Doc’s partner Annie Souter, his family and many friends during this difficult time. Our thoughts are with you.
