Vale Joe Cocker. Dead at the age of 70 after losing his battle with lung cancer. Cockers debut album With A Little Help From My Friends in 1969 changed rock and roll as he reached down into his soul and tapped into it as few others had done before. Cocker began his professional career in 1961 as Vance Arnold performing in the pubs of his northern home town of Sheffield. It was under that stage name that he and his band The Avengers supported the Rolling Stones in 1963. Everything changed when he was the first act of the last official day of the Woodstock Festival. With his gravelly voice and Ray Charles inspired vocals, he had the crowd firmly on its feet. For America, it was a portent of things to come. Within a year, he would have a US hit and he was on his ground breaking Mad Dogs and Englishmen tour with 30 musicians, spawning a live album and a hit movie of the same name. Cocker was a legend. He will be sadly missed. https://youtube/watch?v=bRzKUVjHkGk
