Valerie’s Gallery Teams Up with Community Giving Tree to Help Local Families Special Benefit Day Nov. 15 and Children’s Holiday Drive To Warm Heads, Hands & Hearts Newburyport, MA, Nov. 4, 2014 – With winter around the corner, Valerie’s Gallery has teamed up with Community Giving Tree to make local children and their families a just a little more comfortable and cozy. The gallery, located at 26 State Street in Newburyport, will host a Benefit Day on Saturday, November 15 to support the West Boxford-based charity, which helps low-income families in northeastern Massachusetts to raise healthy children by providing recycled clothing, baby equipment and other basic necessities. A percentage of the sales on Benefit Day will go to support Community Giving Tree mission to assist families in need. In addition, Valerie’s Gallery will be hosting a collection drive through the end of November, collecting brand new hats, mittens, pajamas, socks and underwear for boys and girls from newborn to age 14. Gently-used hats and mittens will also be accepted. All who donate items will be entered to win a $100 gift certificate at the shop, renowned for its beautiful and unique, handmade American crafts, artisan jewelry and local art. “Community Giving Tree is a group that resonated with me when my son was very young, and we had some items he no longer used,” said Valerie Stainton, owner of Valerie’s Gallery. “The group fills a very real gap by providing good-condition supplies directly to families through local social service agencies. We have given them crib bedding, strollers, jumparoos, boppies, bathtubs, clothing, coats, diapers, wipes, along with money nearly every month based on sales of our line of store-branded shirts and tote bags. A lot of this money is earmarked for diapers -- a very big need for low-income families especially if they use day care centers, which require disposable diapers,” she added. “In 2012, we started hosting a Benefit Day for Community Giving Tree and a collection drive at the holidays for much-needed items like new packages of socks and underwear, and new hats, mittens, and pajamas that can be presented as gifts for the holidays. In this season when shopping is on everyone’s mind, it feels good to help others and share the warmth,” Stainton explained. Community Giving Tree is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization headquartered in West Boxford, MA. Every year, Community Giving Tree distributes clothing and other basic necessities like baby equipment, holiday toys, toiletries, school supplies, and diapers to more than 6,000 children in northeastern Massachusetts. Two-thirds of the recipients live in Lawrence, Haverhill, and Lynn, Massachusetts. The needs of this community continues to rise as chronic unemployment and recent downsizing take their toll.
