Valley students protest in Delhi Demand release of funds under PMSSS Abid Rashid Baba Srinagar, Mar 04: Thousands of Students from Valley staged a massive protest on Akbar Road New-Delhi on Tuesday demanding the release of their scholarship funds under the much hyped Prime Ministers Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS) from Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD). The Students alleged that they have been duped under this scheme. ““We are in a fix, our payment has not been released by MHRD.We spent nights here in local mosques and Sikh students from Kashmir are staying in Gurudwaras.” one of the protesting students Luqman Rafiq told Rising Kashmir over phone from Delhi Luqman who is studying in Noida International University (NIU) said that college administration asked them to submit the dues or they would be dispelled from the college. “The special word in this scheme is a misnomer as it is giving us sleepless nights,” the student added. Another student said that when all the Kashmiri students assembled in Delhi to protest, however, they were ruthlessly beaten by police. “We were beaten to pulp, and they threatened dire consequences if we protest again,” he added. Imtiaz Malik, Chairman Peoples Forum, a local NGO who helps Valley based students to get admission in various professional colleges across India under this scheme, said that he received scores of calls from Kashmiri students in this regard. “I couldn’t bear this harsh treatment with my students; they have come here for studies not to fight battles. These boys are always suspected as dreaded terrorists while as girls are the worst sufferers who face embarrassment as lewd comments are being passed over them.” Malik said Delhi police resorted to lathi charge after students held demonstrations resulting in the injury of various Kashmiri students. General Secretary of Peoples Forum Magrey Mansoor told this reporter that near about 3000 students were protesting here from last two days demanding the clearance of their dues from All India Counsel for Technical Education (AICTE). However, Director Admissions Noida International University Latiqa Choudhry denied the allegations but maintained that only those students protested whose dues have not been cleared from AICTE (All India Counsel for Technical Education) yet. “We treat kashmiri students as our own children”, Choudhry told Rising Kashmir. When asked about the misbehavior with Kashmiri students she said, “This is very bad, I myself condemn this act if it is true but we haven’t received any such complaint”she added.
