Van Buren Middle School PARENT UPDATE 9-8-14 Good Afternoon - Van Buren received another bomb threat today at school. A note was left in the restroom this morning. We took precautionary measures to insure the safety of the students. We conducted our September Fire Drill in order to get the students out of the building during the specified time. We also notified the Kettering Police and worked in conjunction with them to conduct the drill. One of the reasons that we decided to conduct a fire drill is that we don’t want to have our responses become too predictable for someone that was truly going to target our school. Given the timing of the situation, we know that the note was left by a student. We are in the process of investigating this situation in order to prevent this from happening anymore. Please have a conversation with your child in the very near future about the severity of issuing a false alarm or threat. This is a Felony in the Second Degree in the State of Ohio. We have the police involved every step of the way and are working within the schools to prevent recurrences in the future. Jeff Blakley Principal Van Buren Middle School
