Vancouver has worked a deal that makes Utica Comets forward Kellan Lain a former Utica Comet. The Canucks have acquired center Will Acton from Edmonton in exchange for Lain. Acton is 27 years old and has spent most of his pro playing days in the AHL with Toronto and Oklahoma City. He has played 33 games in the NHL with the Oilers, scoring 3 goals and 2 assists in his NHL career. This season, Action has played 6 games with the OK Barons getting a goal and an assist. He also has played 3 games this season with Edmonton. Lain is in his 3rd season of pro hockey having started with Chicago two seasons ago and with the Comets last season. Kellan had 7 goals and 12 assists in 63 games with the Comets last season while spending 129 minutes in the box. Kellan got in 9 games with the Canucks last season, notching his first NHL goal. He made the inauspicious debut in NHL history…the legendary 2 second start to his career. January 18, 2014 against Calgary, John Tortorella gave Lain the start at center against Vancouver’s bitter rival. The Flames set the tone with the lineup they sent out for the opening faceoff. It was Lain lined up against fighter Kevin Westgarth. Defenseman Kevin Bieska waved Lain out of the faceoff circle and all hell broke loose. Lain ended up squaring off against Westgarth anyway. Because it was the second fight in the same stoppage Lain got a fighting major and an automatic game misconduct after just 2 second of ice time, a record that may never be broken. Lain appeared in 10 of the Comets 16 games this season, posting just 1 assist and 20 minutes in penalties. Acton is expected to be assigned to the Comets and could join the team in time for the Rochester trip and the Dome game against the Crunch. Hey, now that your here...like us!
