Vanessas Random Thoughts by Vanessa Cwikla This last week, I tackled a chore so vile and disgusting that I am loathe to even put it in writing. Thats right. Cleaning the refrigerator. I know I shouldnt be so put off by a relatively easy chore, but it is much harder than many of you will understand. I have a fairly new refrigerator. It is beautiful. It is a massive behemoth with double doors on top and the pull out drawer on the bottom for the freezer. It is a housewifes dream and a nightmare. While it is extremely roomy and you can indeed fit an entire Thanksgiving dinner in it including the huge serving trays, there is one thing that salesmen forget to mention. You have to pull those huge shelves out and clean them. Needless to say, they dont fit in the sink. You almost want to take them to the bathtub to scrub them down. Ideally I think creating a refrigerator that is self cleaning would make everyones life easier. By the time I was done, I wanted to break out the pressure washer. No grime can resist a pressure washer. Of course that would just mean I would need to clean up the removed filth from my floor. Did I mention that I got the refrigerator in stainless steel? Yes, it does look beautiful, but it is always fingerprinted and you really need to wash it periodically with stainless steel cleaner. I have small children. I really dont know what I was thinking. On the upside, I did find and beat back the mystery meat that was growling in the back. I was afraid if I waited much longer it would try to bite me if I stuck my hand in too far. I also found some fun-filled things that have been in there so long they were dried out and crusty. Disgusting. ******* The football game on Friday was amazing. I was a little worried during the first half the Blackhawks didnt bring their A game, but during the second half I came up with a different theory. I think they were just letting Green-wood/Granton get their hopes up so they would be more demoralized when the Blackhawks stomped them into the ground. It also misted and sprinkled throughout the entire game. I had several layers of clothes on and a heavy comforter and almost froze to death. Plus no matter what you were wearing or using to block the rain, you ended up soaked and chilled to the bone. I checked the weather for the Abbotsford game this weekend though and it appears to be dry with only a slight chance for rain. So far. Hope to see you there! ******* The Packer game had a similar theme going to it. Although they did not stomp the Jets into the ground, they did come from behind to win the game. At one point they were behind 21-3. But, the second half they got their act together and won 31-24. Go Pack! ******* What is up with the weather last week? Holy buckets it was cold. Thank goodness we have wood heat. It was toasty and warm in the house. Warm enough to tackle the refrigerator. In fact the only problem with wood heat is that there really isnt any way to regulate the heat. I had to open windows. It gets up to 80 and higher in here some days. My husband is a firm believer in filling the stove as far as you can. He works outside and wants to be warm when he comes in. I am a more of a lets go down and put a chunk in every couple hours to try to keep it in the low seventies. I usually manage it during the day, but he wins at night. When he worked out of town, it was wonderful. I won all the time. ******* Does anybody besides me think that the professional football players that are in trouble for beating their wives or children should be treated just like a non-famous person? I am fairly sure if I took a tree branch/switch to my children—and believe me Ive wanted to—and beat them to the point of injury, I would be in jail. Or if someone punched their wife on film and knocked her out, jail. Saying, oops, I didnt mean for it to go that far doesnt make it OK. Kids look up to these people and want to be like them when they grow up. Poor kids. Taking responsibility for their actions would teach their fans a lot. No one should be above the law.
