Vanity thoughts vs. a mind secured by the cross What kind of words attract your mind during these days just before the New Year? Many are the positive prayers and exiting words of prosperity which are sent out via the pulpit, the Christian media channels and operations like Facebook. Many are the promises purportedly coming from Heaven. All of them speak about a new dawn, new possibilities and new outpourings. All of them aim at stirring new hope, renewed energy and the ability to overcome former struggles. But, what lies in a preacher’s declaration for days to come? What lies in a prophet’s words as to the changing of the particular setting in which you find yourself to be stuck? Is there anything to be found as a general season of blessing in which all Christians are to find all their problems solved? The very unkind answer – which also is the truest one, is an outright No. The more general and vague is the prediction, the more vanity is packed into it. The more sweeping and imprecise is the prophecy, the farther from truth it is. The greater and positive the promises are, the greater the necessity for investigation and testing. Even further, if there is a tag attached to it saying, “this is a word from God sent by a man of God – do not test, do not question” – then classify it as utterly false. True covering under the hand of the Lord comes by the love for truth. “They received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.” (2 Tess 2:10) Vanity never saves, vanity prophets never bring truth. Ours is a duty to produce some severe testing. Ours is a right to love truth – don’t forfeit salvation. By doing so our fellowships become truly prophetic –a testimony pointing towards Christ Jesus, our Messiah and Savior. To the one daring to speak generalities and bringing declarations for the sake of bringing change to the coming days: “Do seek the Lord for a true seeing and for His words for particular settings. Quit fantasy as well as vanity. Be willing to repent and to bow to the guidance of the Holy Spirit.” To the many who have been deceived by vanity prophets: “The Lord, Jesus Christ, will bring you through to a radically new beginning, when He comes. Learn to wait for the Lord and His salvation. There may be a word for you from a true shepherd – but wait, do not submit to vanity”
