Var Softball Woodward-Granger Tourney Summary: Abraham Lincoln’s softball team split four games this weekend at the Woodward-Granger pool-play tournament. On Friday, the Lynx beat the host team 5-3, then rallied from three runs down in the seventh inning for a 4-3 win over Perry. On Saturday, A.L. fell short in two games against state-rated teams, falling 13-0 to Class 4-A No. 2 Winterset and 11-5 to Class 5-A No. 6 West Des Moines Dowling. “All in all, it was a pretty good weekend,” A.L. coach Val Hallagan said. “They played really, really hard all weekend and didn’t give up no matter what the score was. “Friday was a great day, and Saturday we saw some really good competition. It was great for our girls to see that kind of competition and see that they could still get hits against those great teams,” she said. The highlight was Friday’s comeback win over Perry, when A.L. scored four runs in the seventh inning. The big hit was Lauren Meeker’s bases-loaded double, which scored two runs, including Lyslie Barrett with the game-winner. Meeker also hit home runs against Woodward-Granger and Dowling.
