Varuna 51 Checks in! Featuring Tim. Tim is pitman onboard VARUNA and the boat captain. Tim is responsible for all the operations before and after the races. During maneuvers he is on the pit coordinating the bow team with the crew in the cockpit. Q: Describe a typical three hour watch. A: Approximately 15 minutes before the actual beginning of the watch you get woken up. First thing you check the on deck clothing situation. After dressing, which can take quite some time in rough conditions you go on deck. If possible we try to do sail changes in this period of time as we are more people on deck during the watch changes. During the watch I trim or grind. Then there is a lot of stacking to do, moving the sails forward and backwards for the weight trim. After the watch I have a freez dried meal and do all the usual household things such as checking the different systems and repairing small things. Then back into the bunk. If you are lucky they leave you there until the end of the off watch. If you are unlucky you have to go on deck for maneuvers. Q: Did you see any of the competitors? A: No, we cant see them but there are somewhere around here. Q: Missing the most? A: My princess of course.
