Vehicle Accident in USA on Saturday Description A pilot died after the small plane he was in crashed just after takeoff from Baton Rouge Metro Airport Friday. Baker Police Chief Mike Knapps says John Fowler, 71, of Brookhaven, MS, was the only person aboard the plane when it crashed in a Baker neighborhood. The plane went down along Rue Jennifer, collided with three homes, and burst into flames. Two of the homes also caught fire. East Baton Rouge Parish Department of Emergency Medical Services spokesman Nick McDonner said there were no reports of any injuries to residents on the ground. The scene is about four miles from the airport, just off Groom Road. EBR Parish Sheriff Sid Gautreaux says the Beechcraft King Air took off from the Baton Rouge Airport just after 1 p.m. and only went a few miles before the crash happened. It was in the air a very short time before it disappeared from the radar, Sheriff Gautreaux said. According to officials, the plane originally took off from Texas and landed at the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport. The pilot then took off from Baton Rouge and was heading to McComb, MS. Knapps says when the plane went down it clipped one house and a tree. The plane then spun around and hit two more homes, he said. The NTSB will return to the site Saturday morning to process the scene. Baker is about 13 miles north of Baton Rouge.
