Vehicle Collides with Motorcycle on S. Virginia Street Causing one Fatality On Friday September 27, 2013 at approximately 1:40 pm, Troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol were dispatched to an accident that occurred on S. Virginia Street near the intersection of Holcomb Ranch Lane which involved a van and a motorcycle. Preliminary investigation details indicate a 2012 Chevrolet van driven by Michael Johnson 29, of Reno, NV was traveling Northbound in the center turn lane on S. Virginia Street preparing to make a left turn onto Holcomb Ranch Lane When a 2004 Suzuki ridden by David Hanks 37, also of Reno, NV was traveling Southbound in the left lane on S. Virginia Street. The Chevrolet van turned in front of the Suzuki motorcycle causing a head-on collision. The rider was ejected from the motorcycle and struck the van. David Hanks was transported by ambulance to Renown Regional Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries. Michael Johnson the driver of the Chevrolet van was not injured from the accident. The Southbound left and middle lanes of S. Virginia were blocked but the right lane was open for traffic while the Nevada Highway Patrol investigated the scene. Trooper Kris Satterwhite of the Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating the accident.
