Vehicle Extraction training went well and six firefighters from Lakeway VFD completed the entire 2-day course. Learning the ropes associated with the high-voltage from those newer electric vehicles (cars, school buses and trucks) was especially interesting. We all had hands-on experience using the jaws-of-life, both for cutting and for creating expansion joints in the metal, so I guess you can say we are all qualified in these extraction techniques. The class actually ripped apart two different cars, and removed the doors, hoods, and roofs from each using the jaws-of-life.
