Velai Illai Pattadhari directed and DOP by Velraj, Music Anirudh, Stunt Hari Dhinesh, Editing Rajesh. Starring Dhanush, Amala Paul, Samuthrakani, Saranya Mohan. Genre: Action comedy drama. Story of an unemployed engineering graduate (Raghuvaran) who tries to over come the obstacles he faces while taking up a government housing board construction project. Debutant director Velraj has come up with an essential story line for the current age and the output has been generated with masala elements served for C class audience. Dhanushs 25th film slide show makes the audience and fans to shower their love and affection through applause. First half grips the commercial success which includes humor, songs and stunt scenes. However, I personally feel that the film has nothing big to talk about!. Velraj sir should have concentrated more in drafting the screenplay. The graph which was carried over in first half basically lacks in the second half. Amala Paul appears as love interest who stays as neighbour but she moves with not much interest in face, in other words her character can be easily convinced by any non graduate for a relationship. Following are few continuity shots in the movie. Flaw 1: Raghuvaran (Dhanush) is being informed that his mother passed away due to cardiac arrest. He enters the house by wearing his shoes but the very next shot his shoes disappears and he sits with a bear foot. The next shot the pair of shoes comes back to his feet. Flaw 2: His brother cries aloud and shouts at him asking why didnt he answer the call when his mom was trying to call when she was undergoing the pain of cardiac arrest. Unsure how his brother came to know this. Flaw 3: Raghuvaran hears from his junior at hospital that the co-worker is in critical stage. He has a bandage tied up in his forehead and the front portion of his hair waves, but the next shot he walks out to meet the so called Villain and the bandage is very well tied up and his hair is well combed. Well, if there were few twist and turns this commercial flick would have been liked by everyone. Youngsters stepping down from bus from various cities to support the construction is another artificial element. Villain helps to grab applause for every 10 mins as and when Dhanush finishes up the dialogue and turns back and walks in slow motion with cigarratte on his lips. I wouldnt say this flick is worst but this should have been better if there were more grips and interesting factors. The script loses speed when Dhanush takes up the responsibility to construct. Plus: Dhanush, Music, First Half, Saranya Mohan. The film can be watched once in theatre just to see Dhanush with more energy after Thiruviladayal Aarambam, Polladhavan and Yaaradi Nee Mohini. However, if you are going to enter the theatre with so much of expectations then you may not be satisfied. If Mariyaan or Raanjana or Aadukalam occupied this D25 then it would have made more sense. Rating: ***1/2* (3.5 Stars)
