Verbatim from Ramez Naams summary of the Washington Posts key findings form the CIA inquiry. 1. Torture wasnt an effective means of gathering intel. 2. CIA lied to the White House, Congress, the National Security Council, the public, and its own Inspector General. 3. The torture was incredibly brutal. (See this post if you want some examples: https://facebook/ramez.naam/posts/10152389904072493) 6 and 7. CIA did everything it could to dodge both Congressional and White House oversight, lying, omitting information, etc.. 8. CIA impeded the National Security mission. There are some crazy stories here. CIA cut secret deals with countries, and then in some cases told those countries *not to tell* the US ambassadors, the US Secretary of State, or anyone else in the US government that theyd struck such a deal. 10. CIA illegally leaked select classified information - much of it inaccurate - to the press in order to tell their story. To date, of course, the only person prosecuted for anything to do with the torture case isnt a torturer or someone who ordered or covered it up - its a whistleblower. Leaking is a major crime! Unless youre inside intelligence agency and leaking on purpose to cover up or misdirect your crimes. Theres much more at WaPo, in a nice interactive interface.
