Vermont become the first state in the US to adopt a law requiring labels for foods containing genetically modified ingredients. The states governor, Peter Shumlin, announced on his Twitter feed that he would hold a signing ceremony on Thursday afternoon to sign the new measure into law. The law requiring food with genetically modified ingredients to be labelled is due to take effect July 2016 (but likely to face law suits).
