Verna Yeltatzie-Mason, my precious mother, is on the left corner of this photo. It was three years ago, yesterday that she entered Ketchikan Peace Health Medical Center for the final time. I have been visiting my brother Patrick Bryant at the hospital and the Doctors, nurses, therapists and staff have been sharing fond memories with us about how active and patriotic mother was. We were blessed to have a woman in our lives who sang songs in Sm’algyax and marched in the parade carrying an American flag in one hand and an Alaskan flag in the other. She would wear the double finned killer whale regailia that her father Jones George Yeltatzie designed for her. She was proud of her heritage and her country. Missing my mama.
