Vernon Parish Sheriff Sam Craft reports that the last two suspects from Vernon Parish that were indicted in a Federal drug case have been sentenced. Melvin Morris, Jr., 25, of Leesville and Marquis Williams, also of Leesville, were sentenced by U.S. District Judge Elizabeth Foote. Morris was sentenced to 20 months in prison to be followed by three years of supervised probation upon his release. Williams was sentenced to 35 months in prison to be followed by three years of supervised probation upon his release. Morris and Williams were prosecuted as part of OCDEFT Operation Styrofoam Cookies. The operation stemmed from an investigation initialized by the Vernon Parish Narcotics Task Force involving Brenda White, of Leesville, and her son Deshun McNeely of Haughton, La., for the Distribution of Crack Cocaine and Methamphetamine. Brenda White received a sentence of 24 months in prison and three years supervised probation upon her release. Deshun McNeely received a sentence of 120 months in prison and three years of supervised probation upon his release. A total of eight suspects have pled guilty and received sentences. The case led to arrests in the parishes of Caddo, Bossier, Natchitoches and Vernon. Sheriff Craft would like to thank all of the participating agencies, including the DEA office in Shreveport, the Louisiana State Police North District Narcotics and the Natchitoches Parish Narcotics Unit. Assistant U.S. Attorney James Cowles, Jr., of the U.S. Attorney’s office for the Western District of Louisiana prosecuted the case.
