Veronica Hamilton joined the U.S. Air Force right after she graduated high school in 2008. She joined for numerous reasons, but there are a few at the top of her list. Veronica married her husband, Devin Hamilton, in May 2008 and three days later, Devin returned to Iraq. Devin was on his second deployment and being in the U.S. Army infantry, he was the first to be involved in dangerous missions. Devins reenlistment was coming up and, while he didnt want to reenlist, was concerned about how he would support his family with a military paycheck, benefits, etc. Veronica told Devin, If you take the boots off, I will put them on. Veronica agreed to join a non-combat related job, because Devin didnt want her to see all the terrible things that he had seen during his deployments. Veronica was able to get a non-combat job as a dental laboratory technician, but was up for deployment about 4 years in as an escort to VIPs. This included being a driver for foreign diplomats as they entered and exited overseas bases. Veronica was preparing to deploy when a pre-deployment physical was done and discovered that she has a heart condition that disqualified her from service. A medical evaluation board was started on Veronica and, after a year of waiting, she found out she would be discharged. Veronica served 5 years and left with an honorable discharge. While she was in, she went to night classes at Park University and received her CCAF associates in Applied Science of Dental Laboratory Technology. She has returned to Connersville and is putting her degree to work at Dons Dental Lab. Join me in saluting and honoring Veronica Hamilton and her service to our country.
