Very INTRIGUING little conversation with my three year old today. Tenley said she was scared because she saw a shadow. I said, You dont have to be scared of shadows, shadows are everywhere. Anytime theres light in the darkness theres a shadow. Which got me thinking... what an incredible metaphor. Without light in the darkness there are no shadows. The shadow is the evidence of the light. A dull glow, a sweet shimmer, an intense and blinding light. Just as it is with the gradients of love. Love casts the shadow of grief over loss. Without love theres no sorrow. The sorrow comes because of the love. The sorrow is the proof of the love. I must connect my perfect metaphor with something so profound that my mom told me. This has stayed with me for weeks. Your sorrow and pain doesnt have to be EQUAL to the love you have for Marshall. Its ok to chose joy and to chose love instead. After all, it always comes back to CHOICE.
