Very Misleading Comment ....... Yesterdays SCMP (i.e. June 26th, 2014) reported that a Polish diplomat, who was formerly a UN GA President, said that there is no international standard for democracy. Whilst he is technically correct, it is very misleading. There is an international standard on the right to participate in the conduct of public affairs, (i.e. Article 25 of the ICCPR), which is explained in General Comment No. 25 of the Human Rights Committee; see: www1.umn.edu/humanrts/gencomm/hrcom25.htm And I think you will see that this applies to how elections should be carried out, apart from other relevant issues.
