Very convenient to say racism and religious extremism is a Malayan - TopicsExpress

Very convenient to say racism and religious extremism is a Malayan problem. It is so easy to paint all West Malaysians with a single brush, and mark them as one of the UMNO mentality fellas. I am a Sabahan. And this is my testimony: Yes it is true Malayans have robbed the resources of East Malaysians. Yes it is true Malayans have manipulated the social landscape of Sabah with immigrants. Yes it is true Malayans have deprived many East Malaysians of electricity and water. Yes it is true Malayans are infiltrating religious and racial extremism into East Malaysia. But have you not checked, these are UMNO/BN Malayans. Have you not checked, it was the Sabahan BN leaders who invited UMNO into Sabah. Have you not checked, no local Sabahan political parties dare to say anything against Sabah UMBO? Have you not checked, half the Peninsular has rejected UMNO/BN in the past General Elections. Have you not checked, that in fact it is our fellow East Malaysians who kept UMNO/BN in power. Throughout my time in Peninsular, I have met many West Malaysians. They are not that different from Sabahans, except that they dont say bah. I have met very religious and conservative Muslims too. In East Malaysia, it is okay to shake hands of Muslims. Here, it is a little different. But whats wrong with that? We still respect each other in spite of that. In East Malaysia, I hang out with Muslim friends at the KopiTiams, no issue. In West Malaysia, we hang out at the mamaks or banana leaf shops. Problem? No problem. Im a proud Sabahan, and Sabah has always been in my heart despite being 1,600km apart. But it is also very shameful at the same time, for Sabahans to blame everyone else but ourselves. Sabah Tanahairku.
