Very few things make me happier than people doing well for themselves, bit shit that papers dont recognise teenagers and younger kids doing well for themselves. I mean t T Bone Steak organised an event to help homeless people which involved teenagers from the lower falls staying out in the streets and feeding homeless people, it got no more than 300 words in the andytown news. Hoods will get more notice in the paper for bad stuff, maybe because people want to read it. I find it discouraging for people that are good people to not get noticed even if they dont do it to be noticed. Joe Fitzy got a silver medal at the commonwealth games at such a young age, but the only people that are talked about in divis are the ones stealing cars etc. Cricky Harlandandwolf Crane and Caoimhghin Mulligan, Levi Ives and Martin olali have played for N.I all over the world but yet these kids from the murph and got no notice from papers for it even local ones. There is nameless people doing well for themselves from west Belfast such as ryan mclaughlin all the boxers fighting tomorrow in the devenish , people doing irish dancing, wee Reece mc ginley and so much more. The focus always seems to be on the bad but there is more good in bad in this place it just doesnt get noticed.
