Very full day! Conference worship had a different feel from the all singing all dancing service of last year but had huge warmth and what a privilege it is to be part of the event that saw this years ordinands being accepted into full Connexion. Kens sermon focused on Sts Peter and Paul and was illustrated with an endearing video of small children reciting two little dicky birds - with actions! Micky Youngson presented the Bible from last weeks celebration of 40 years of womens ordained ministry within the Methodist church to be used as the conference Bible. It is one of the biggest Bibles Ive ever seen - and Martyn Atkins couldnt get it to fit on the lectern! The rest of the day was spent off piste. Micky, lorraine brown and I caught the train to Coventry and after a quick lunch joined the congregation in the cathedral for the Diaconal Ordination service. An incredibly inspiring setting for the formal start of the ministry of the ordinands and we were warmly welcomed by the Dean. It is always so moving to see the joy that ordinands experience - and I think towards next years conference where we expect to be celebrating the ordination of our beloved Vicci Mitchell-Luker and Ben Richard Haslam. Many churches apparently share conference worship by having the live streaming as their morning worship and Id be thrilled if the churches in the Teddington circuit were able to do this. Tomorrow the more formal sessions begin - the conference hall will have been filled with desks and chairs and feel very different. Cant wait!
