Very good article although not surprising. What Id like to point out though is that stress depletes magnesium. When a horse is continually stressed without enough time between stressors to chill out and recover, this can lead to a magnesium deficiency. When a horse becomes deficient, it stresses the adrenals causing adrenalin and cortisol to be released. This is turn can keep the horse in a chronic state of anxiety/nervousness. One of the best ways to avoid this is to supplement with a very bio-available form of magnesium. Of course the only magnesium Back to Basics recommends is MagRestore from Performance Equine USA. MagRestore is the only magnesium supplement I have found that actually works on deficient horses. Believe me.......I have tried them all! thehorse/articles/34841/researchers-evaluate-equine-stress-levels-at-competitions
