Very important Oakland City Council mtg. tonight! At issue is whether or not the City of Oakland wants to keep BRT moving, and the second is whether or not the City Council should set aside 25% of the "boomerang funds" for sorely needed affordable housing efforts in Oakland. TransForm supports both, and below our main points on BRT. Please come out and join us in support of these two issues! 1. We support the East Bay BRT project as a tremendous opportunity to make sorely needed transit improvements along International Blvd. leading to safer, more frequent, and more reliable transit service for everyone. The project will also deliver key pedestrian and bicycle improvements that will make walking and riding a bike safer along the corridor. 2. Based on the above goal, we support the City of Oakland entering into the agreements requested with AC Transit at this time, acknowledging that to wait any longer would jeopardize funding from the FTA that has been earmarked for the East Bay BRT project. 3. We acknowledge that the Business Impact Mitigation Plan has not been finalized, and support AC Transit spending the next several months working with key stakeholders on putting together a Business Impact Mitigation Plan and a Parking Impact Mitigation plan that meets the diverse linguistic and outreach needs that small businesses have along the corridor as they prepare for, survive through, and then thrive after the construction of BRT. 4. We encourage deeper partnership and support between AC Transit, the City of Oakland and key stakeholder groups in efforts to pursue regional and more flexible private funding that could be used to supplement the BRT budget.
